This bottom fermented smoked beer is modelled after the German style 'Rauchbier' The dark golden colour and the distinctive smell and taste origins primarily from the peated malt which is barley malt smoked over beech chips. The tobacco company C.W. Obel A/S has given name to this beer. The old tobacco company, founded in 1787, was at that time located on the square in front of the brewhouse. Of course a beer with a smokey taste had to be given name after the founder of the tobacco company; Christen Winther.
